Writing

Welcome to the space where you can explore my various writing projects.

My most recent oral history project is titled Street Musicians of Spain. In 2024, I set out to capture the stories of working street musicians in Barcelona and Málaga, Spain. Through interviews, photographs, videos and music, I hope this collection paints a picture of the lives of these eclectic street performers. This compilation will grow over time.

My first book project is titled An Immigrant Class:Oral Histories from Chicago’s Newest Immigrants, which chronicles the lives of a diverse group of twenty Chicago immigrants, all former students of mine at Truman College, through their own first-person narratives and photographs. You can read a few of the chapters and view the photographs here or visit the website for more information including how to purchase the book.

If you are a fan of Studs Terkel, you may enjoy both of these oral history projects.

I’ve also written a new memoir to share short and some long (ok, very long) vignettes from perhaps interesting moments in my life. You be the judge. Enjoy the accompanying song that I’ve written for each chapter as well.

Finally, I’m embarking on another storytelling project called Writer’s Block, in which I engage someone on the street in a 20-minute interview about a specific moment, perspective or experience in their lives and then produce a short biography for each of them. More to come…
